Translational sciences for the cell & gene therapy and synthetic biology sectors are ever-evolving and driven by the continual development of new technologies. At Next Phase we understand the science, identifying the niche skills required to ensure these life-changing therapies are commercialised. Over the last 15 years we have placed people at all levels across discovery, R&D, viral vectors, process development, gene engineering, bioinformatics & data science, within companies of all sizes.

In the latest Skills Demand Survey Report from Cell & Gene Therapy Catapult, it is stated that 95% of ATMP businesses know they will have challenges with increasing their headcount in the next 5 years, while 98% know that retaining people will be one of their biggest issues to tackle.

Why is this? Quite simply, the Cell & Gene Therapy sector is growing exponentially, and there are (and will be) more vacancies than the number of experienced people. This is being commonly referred to as a “Skills Gap”. It will therefore become harder to recruit new staff, and more important to retain your best people.

Now is the time to share ideas, particularly around apprenticeships, industrial placements, graduate schemes, continuous professional development programmes and platforms.
