James Hume is recruiting for a Senior Scientist – Cell Line Development to join an ambitious company who are at the forefront of synthetic biology and its application to the discovery, development and manufacture of Biologics, Cell & Gene Therapies. This is a senior role within their laboratories that offers excellent longer-term career progression with exposure internally and with external stakeholders. You will be expected to drive forward and lead specific projects from the bench which for this role will be focused on setting up and operationally leading CHO based cell lines for the manufacture of therapeutic proteins.
The Senior Scientist role’s purpose is to lead the setting up of and then operationally leading CHO based cell line development for the expression of therapeutic proteins. This is a growing area for the company and is focused on developing cell lines for protein manufacture, the optimisation of cell growth conditions, and the genetic manipulation of cell lines for example. Working on both internal development and commercial projects at the same time using you expertise to push them forward.
This role is visible within the company because you will be interacting with protein engineering, expression and process development groups. As well as with external stakeholders when working on external development projects alongside internal R&D projects. As a Senior Scientist, you will be expected to drive forward and lead assigned projects from the bench and provide support to more junior colleagues within the group. The ability to show commitment to scientific development and a commitment to innovation are essential for this role.

Desired Skills and Experience
You will need an MSc or PhD for this opportunity combined with academic or commercial experience, commercial experience is an advantage to your application. You will need to have experience of working with mammalian suspension cell lines that includes generating stable and clonal lines. As well as the generation of genetic constructs for protein expression. Additionally, you will need experience of flow cytometry / FACS, q PCR / ddPCR, and assays to assess the product quality attributes e.g. ELISA, MS, HPLC. Experience of working to a quality system such as GLP or GMP or ISO is advantageous to your application.
