Job Description

James Hume is recruiting for a Group Leader AAV to join an ambitious company who are at the forefront of synthetic biology and its application to the discovery, development and manufacture of Biologics, Cell & Gene Therapies.  This is a leadership opportunity where you will have the chance to take control of a newly formed team created due to the demand for this service and developments in the field.  Group Leaders are expected to take both a scientific and technical leadership role whilst training scientists within the group.  The ability to demonstrate a commitment to scientific and development is considered essential for this role.

Job Summary

The Group Leader AAV will be leading a newly established team created by the company’s growth and demand for expertise in this area.  You will take on the responsibility for both internal platform development and external commercial projects.  Leading these form the front to set out projects from the beginning then overseeing these till completion.  This will include engagement with the relevant external and internal stakeholders as well as using your science to deliver projects.

The team are establishing novel AAV vectors, stable viral packaging lines / bioproduction systems and running a commercial batch production operation in conjunction with a sub team.  You will be providing scientific support to scientists within the group including their training which at present is a small team.  In this role, you will have the chance to develop your ideas as they are continually seeking new innovations and as a company they have a commitment to scientific development and innovation.

Desired Skills and Experience

They are looking for a PhD qualified scientist with experience of working in academia or industry who has led teams previously with responsibility for their line management.  You will need to have strong knowledge of viral vector engineering, production, characterisation with a focus on AAV.  On a technical basis, you will need to have experience of analytical techniques (flow cytometry, FACS, qPCR, and ELISA.  If you have experience of using robotic liquid handling automation systems, gene editing tools, and production of stable mammalian cell lines is desirable but not essential.
