Job Description

James Hume is recruiting for an Analytical Scientist to join an ambitious company who are at the forefront of synthetic biology and its application to the discovery, development and manufacture of Biologics, Cell & Gene Therapies.  This role is one where you will need to use your creative thinking and scientific ability to develop and establish analytical processes for the testing of biotherapeutics.  To support the development of internal R&D programmes and commercial projects.

Job Summary:
The purpose of the Analytical Scientist role is to support a range of internal and external R&D programmes, focusing on establishing the analytical processes and methodology for protein and viral vector based biotherapeutics.  You will work collaboratively with a range of groups in the company with a focus on Cell Line Development and Process Development groups.

As a Scientist, you will be leading projects in the laboratory to ensure their delivery, firstly by working with the Group Leader and other teams to define and design projects.  You will be developing a range of analytical techniques specific to projects requirements and responsible for the authoring of SOP’s.  These techniques include: qPCR, ELISA, Western Blotting, SPR and HPLC.  They will be designed to for the analysis of both proteins and viral vectors e.g. lentiviral, antibodies, antibody fragments and AAV. 

This role is relatively senior in the laboratories meaning you will be mentoring more junior scientists as well as, be responsible for regular client contact and other responsibilities outside of the laboratory.

Desired Skills and Experience:
You will need an MSc or PhD for this opportunity combined with academic or commercial experience, commercial experience is an advantage to your application.  You will need to have experience of the use of analytical techniques such as qPCR for the quantisation of viral particles and the analysis of novel proteins.  Techniques you will need to be familiar with are HPLC, ELISA, Western Blotting, qPCR.  If you have experience of SPR or QCM techniques for measuring protein binding kinetics this is an advantage to your application.
