Job Description

James Hume is recruiting for a Senior Scientist who has experience of process development of immunotherapies to join their wider Industrialisation Group. The group’s particular focus is om immunotherapy production including CAR and TCR therapies. Their focus is on translational – upstream and downstream - science providing the expertise to take novel therapies from the laboratory into the clinic.  This role is responsible for leading projects forwards in the laboratories working with more junior scientists as well as driving new business opportunities and where needed liaising directly with clients to develop project portfolios.   Which puts them right at the forefront of research into this area and having an increasingly positive impact on this exciting and dynamic sector.

The Company:
The company are at the cutting edge of research into Cell and Gene therapies, working with their partners to take these through the commercialisation process to market launch.  So far they have successfully taken therapies to phase II clinical trials with these progressing to phase III soon.  Which has led to the construction of a new manufacturing facility to meet the increased volume of therapies needed for the latter stages of clinical trials.  They not only have therapies under development across a wide range of therapeutic areas including oncology and cardiovascular. They are also researching into advanced manufacturing processes such as automation, developing characterisation of potency assays, cell plasticity projects, sterility testing alongside their therapy development programmes to support the growth of the sector.  They work in a very and dynamic forward thinking way looking to utlise the latest technologies enable them to remain at the forefront of research into this exciting sector that has great potential.

The Opportunity:
The Senior Scientist is a dynamic role with a range of responsibilities that incorporates those outside that are client focussed and science focused inside of the laboratory.  This combination reflects the senior standing within the Industrialisation Group to drive projects forward from the bench working closely with the Lead Scientists and Head of Department.   Taking responsibility for the timely delivery of research projects to the right quality with involvement in the whole lifecycle of projects helping to set out resources, and milestones for assigned projects.  Working closely with clients to share work flows and research plans from the beginning to then be in close contact with them during projects.

Within the laboratories you will drive projects forward to keep them in line with agreed research plans by managing the scientists assigned to the project.  The projects focus on the development of CAR and TCR as well as other immunotherapies.  You will be responsible for the design, qualification, and validation of upstream and / or downstream processes and the analysis of data to keep research moving forward.  It is the responsibility of the Senior Scientist to manage any technology transfer both in a transferring capacity and receiving site.

Desired Skills and Competencies:
As a Senior Scientist you will need to have PhD with experience / knowledge of immunotherapy production including CAR / TCR immunotherapies.  You will need to have experience of the expansion of immune cells in bioreactor system(s).  With demonstrable experience of flow cytometry using multicolor panels with additional experience of cellular separation through MACS columns or FACS sorting.

Experience of novel cell processing technologies within upstream processing is advantageous.  As is cell based functional potency assays for immune cells e.g. ELISPOT, proliferation or tumor killing or cytotoxicity assays.
