Job Description

This is a truly exciting and unique opportunity to be part of a new and groundbreaking UK wide initiative that will transform the ability to deliver Cell & Gene Therapies to patients.  The company were set up as a centre excellence to accelerate the growth of the Cell & Gene Therapy industry, in which they have been very successful by taking therapies across the translational gap to the latter stages of clinical trials.  As well as continually seeking ways to derive the sector forward.  These three new centres is the latest advancement of this strategy to build a national network for therapy delivery.  Thus, they need a Programme Manager to facilitate the delivery of the network covering Manchester and surrounding area.

The Company:
The company are a centre of excellence set up by the government, that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry in the UK.  Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a market leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from across the translational gap into clinical trials using their scientific expertise.  To then manage the running of trials via their clinical operations team who have therapies moving to the latter stages of phase II trials.  Supported by the recently opened Stevenage site which specialises in the manufacture therapies on a scale large enough for phase III manufacture.  Leading the way in regulatory implementation by working closely with regulatory bodies to set not just the scientific but regulatory pathway to be followed.

They are committed to accelerating the growth of the sector and this is the latest development of this mission by developing collaborative networks comprising of academic, commercial and NHS partners across the UK.  These are split into 3 areas – Scotland and Northern England (Leeds, Newcastle, and Scotland); Manchester, and Midlands – Wales (Birmingham, Wales and Nottingham).  The purpose of these is to speed up and improve access to cell and gene therapy products by improving supply chains, data capture, manufacturing and patient follow up.  This is an innovative and ground-breaking initiative to further enhance the development of this sector that is evolving rapidly to improve patient’s lives. 

The Opportunity:
This is an opportunity to take on a role that will have significant impact on the success of this new initiative to set up and implement a collaborative network of centres with specific expertise in this area.  The Programme Manager is high profile within the collaborative network, within the company and to external clients.  Meaning it offers the chance to develop skills and expertise across the entire sector.  The role covers a wide range of activities all linked to the success of the centers and includes: product development, manufacturing, clinical, regulatory requirements and the liaison with industrial and academic partners. 

You will have the responsibility for the day to day management of projects throughout their entire lifecycle developing detailed plans for their delivery.  Working closely with centre leads to identify resources needed and draw together the knowledge needed to keep projects moving forwards to achieve milestones and ultimately delivery.  You will be working closely with the Programme Managers the other 2 centres based in Northern England & Scotland and covering Wales and Midlands on projects that are pan centre.

Desired Skills and Competencies:
Due to the nature of this opportunity you will need to have demonstrable project management and delivery experience within the Biotech, Biopharma, CMO, CRO, Clinical Trials, Supply Chain and NHS sectors – of your experience covers multiple sectors this is an advantage to your application.  If you have clinical trial, supply chain development, or GAMP5 IT project experience this is also advantageous.  If you have a higher degree this is also advantageous to your application but not essential, however a life sciences BSc is.

Due to the nature of the role you will need to be prepared to travel throughout the region as well as to other UK sites including the London Head Quarters when needed.
