James Hume is recruiting for a Scientist AAV Vectors to join an ambitious company who are at the forefront of synthetic biology and its application to the discovery, development and manufacture of Biologics, Cell & Gene Therapies. This role is to be part of their AAV Vector group that engineers viral vectors and novel bio – production methodologies working with both academia and industry. An area that the company wants to continue to expand based on the demand for their expertise. The purpose of this role is to manage the day to day generation and characterisation of AAV Vectors with the responsibility for the operational delivery.
The Scientist role is to manage the day to day generation and characterisation of novel AAV Vectors and be responsible for its operational delivery. This role is part of the wider AAV group who are engineering novel AAV Vectors and novel bio – production methods working with both academic and commercial partners. Their plan is to continue to expand into the Viral Therapeutics Field area over the next 12 months due to the demand for their expertise, in particular around Lentiviral, AAV and Adenoviral Vectors.
You will be responsible for running the in – vitro and in – vivo applications (non GMP) for the small-scale production of vectors. This is a senior role in the laboratory where you will be mentoring more junior technicians as well as overseeing their work and the delivery of projects. Going forward you will be an important part as this function grows meaning this role has very strong career progression opportunities.
The company are at the cutting edge of the use of Synthetic Biology to streamline the discovery, development and production of biologics, cell & gene therapies. Their approach combines cutting edge use of bioinformatics taking advantage of algorithms and other tools that drive forward the rational designs of complex biological systems at the DNA level. These are then assembled on their automated platform technology which enables them to develop systems for the discovery, engineering, and production of antibodies, viral vectors, packaging & production cell lines for lentivirus and AAV manufacture, CRISPR libraries and CRISPR engineering.
They are going through a continued period of expansion due to the demand of their services from industry as well as after entering some major longstanding partnerships. In addition to this they have other technologies under development after securing funding that will further enhance the portfolio of services they can offer. They have an excellent culture where staff are all working closely together with the opportunity of rapid promotion as part of their culture and provide the chance to learn new skills. In addition to the career path they are conscious of the work team members put in and because of this arrange regular events outside of work, away days and other events internally.
Desired Skills and Experience:
You will need an MSc or PhD for this opportunity combined with academic or commercial experience, commercial experience is an advantage to your application. You will need to have experience of working with mammalian cell lines including adherent and suspended cell lines in different formats. You will need experience of generating and characterizing AAV Vectors with experience of at least some of the following techniques:
- plasmid preparation
- transfection (hyperflask/stack, cell factories, suspension)
- purification by iodixanol
- characterisation by qPCR, ELISA, Western blot.
In addition to a competitive salary, the company offers an excellent benefits package including:
- 25 days Annual Leave plus Bank Holidays
- Pension with matched employer contribution to 7%
- Health Insurance
- Group Life Cover
- Child Care Voucher Scheme
- Glasses Vouchers
