A brand-new opportunity has arisen for a commercially-savvy Development Manager, to lead, motivate and manage a Biochemistry and Chemistry Method Development team within a pioneering Biopharmaceutical organisation. We are looking for an inspirational leader with a strong scientific background (preferably MSc or PhD), a solid grounding in a GMP/GLP-regulated Pharmaceutical or Biotech environment and the ambition to undertake a varied and unique role.
This position has been created due to the company’s ongoing expansion activities in Worthing, West Sussex, backed with a strong clinical pipeline and significant market share within the field of allergy vaccination. A pioneering UK-based Pharmaceutical company specialising in the development and production of injectable and oral dose vaccines and diagnostic kits for people who suffer from allergies. They have developed an innovative approach to adjuvant therapy which will be of particular interest to someone with a passion for scientific innovation and GMP / sterile production. This is a varied and exciting role which will include leading the Method Development team as the business continues to grow and move forward.
You will spend around half of your time in team-based activities, including planning and managing scientific projects to complete objectives in development pharmaceutics, method or process development and validation and method transfer. You will also spend a significant amount of time outside of the team, representing the Development department and building collaborative partnerships with both internal groups (Reg Affairs, QA, Production, Clinical Ops etc) external stakeholders (including doctors and KOLs).
You will be responsible for a small team of highly qualified and experienced Chemists and Biochemists who undertake project work relating to the development, validation and transfer of Biochemistry and Chemistry assays for product development, characterisation and standardisation, as well as stability and release. It will therefore be important for you to be able to build up your knowledge and understanding of this work quite quickly, though because the company is very unique it will be appreciated that you may not be an expert in allergy biopharma regulatory sciences.

The successful candidate will ideally have a PhD or MSc in a life science discipline (Biochemistry, Immunology or Chemistry preferred), though BSc will be sufficient with the right experience. You must have previous experience of leading and managing scientific teams and taking a significant role in commercially-minded decision making, understanding the bigger picture of the Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology industry.
