Job Description

My client, based in Wokingham, are a renowned and independent research consultancy, offering real life solutions to clients within transport and mobility. Established over 85 years ago they are integral to innovation within this sector.

They require an experienced Human Factors Researcher to join the team in a senior role, in order to support projects contributing to safer and more efficient transport systems.

The Role
Leading research projects within usability testing, the design and improvement of human machine interfaces (HMI) and user behaviour and motivation trials, you will focus on the road sector and subjects as diverse as driver distraction (including internal and external factors), the effects of fatigue, physical ergonomics and its application to vehicle design and the development of autonomous vehicle technologies. Assessing and eliminating risks throughout the road network as it relates to drivers, cyclists, passengers and road side working personnel.

The Company
A well established and trusted consultancy offering an opportunity to see the results of your research make a difference, whether that be legal or policy changes or re-design and improvement to physical products or interfaces. A supportive employer that offers a competitive salary and benefits package including a generous holiday allowance, flexible working and funding for personal development – including further study and membership to appropriate professional bodies.

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Human Factors/Ergonomics and ideally a post-graduate qualification in an associated discipline, alongside strong commercial experience within user research. Including qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and an ability to translate research findings into solutions for external clients. As a Human Factors champion the user will be the focal point of all you do, with a desire for continuous improvement and updating the status quo to make things better and safer. An excellent communicator and able to work with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve shared goals.

Previous experience within human factors and its application to road users would be very beneficial, however my client is happy to consider people that have gained user research outside of this arena. Experience of driverless vehicles obtained from defence or aviation will also be of interest and involvement in driver simulation user trials would be extremely advantageous.

Please do get in touch to hear more about this opportunity and what my client has to offer.
