James Hume is recruiting for a Bioinformatician with experience of Next Generation Sequencing to join an ambitious company who are at the forefront of synthetic biology and its application to the discovery, development and manufacture of Biologics, Cell & Gene Therapies. This role is to be part of their multi-disciplinary Bioinformatics team that works in close collaboration with wet lab scientists on both commercial and internal platform development programmes. The Bioinformatician NGS is to be responsible for the analysis of NGS data for the planning, interpretation, evaluation and visualisation of results for projects with an NGS component.

The purpose of the Bioinformatician NGS is to design, implement and run software pipelines for analysing next - generation sequencing data. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of scientific programmers, infrastructure engineers, and web app developers on both internal and commercial research projects.
You will be responsible for building data processing pipelines for targeted re – sequencing, whole genome sequencing and differential expression analysis experiments. Working in collaboration with wet lab scientists in the planning, interpretation, evaluation, and visualisation of results for any projects with NGS components. You will also be working closely in-house software engineers to integrate interfaces for the running of these pipelines into their web based LIMS.

Desired Skills and Experience:
You will need an MSc or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science or related field with commercial and / or academic experience.
In addition, you will need:
- Programming experience of Python, Perl, Java and R
- Experience with associated numerical analysis libraries e.g. NumPy for Python, ND4J for Java.
- Experience with NGS datasets, preferably Illumina Paired end, PacBio, or Nanapore in DNA- seq, RNA – seq, break – seq, Guide – seq, or similar.
- Proven track record in the delivery of robust, testable, well organized and fully documented software packages for Linux platforms.
If you have experience of any of the following this is advantageous to your application:
- Command of Biopython, Bioperl, BioJava or Bioconductor.
- Experience of Open Source data visualisation tools e.g. matplotlib
- Data mining / cleaning experience with REST API’s for publicly available repositories of datasets such as: RefSeq, Uniport and Ensembl.
