The company are a centre of excellence that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry in the UK by bridging the gap between science and commercialisation. Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a sector leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market. They offer cutting edge technology and innovation to support companies take their products through clinical trials to the market. To enable those that they collaborate with to overcome the issues faced during commercialisation and bring leading edge therapies to the market. They have a strong Commercial group that comprises a Business Development team whose purpose is to identify novel therapies of potential to collaborate with to ensure a pipeline of projects into the company. Who partners closely with the Transactions team who manage the negotiations and transfer of the project to the company. This is proving very successful based on the successes in taking multiple therapies to the latter stages of clinical trials and the increasing demand for their services.
The Intellectual Property Manager is part of the Commercial Group that includes Business Development, Transactions and IP management. With the responsibility for making recommendations for the protection and exploitation of Intellectual Property, including the negotiation of contractual terms. You will oversee a range of functions such as patentability and how to protect IP. Covering the patenting process for the capturing of IP, and the drafting patent applications. You will also manage patent applications through the examination to final grant and the continuing maintenance of a patent portfolio.
This is a high-profile role where you will be in frequent communication with scientists so that you become familiar with the project teams and their current projects. As well as providing information to colleagues within the Commercial group, for example the Business Development and Transactions teams. In addition, you will provide training and education to internal colleagues and external parties as part of the company’s mission to support the cell and gene therapy industry.
Desired Skills and Competencies:
For this role you will need to have demonstrable experience within the life science / pharmaceutical / biotech sectors with experience of managing intellectual property across a diverse range of project. With experience of the negotiation of contractual terms and the ability to resolve IP queries. You will need to have experience of the identification and capturing of patentable inventions internally and as part of a collaboration. Including the protection of IP, capturing of IP, drafting of applications and the management of a patent portfolio. You will need to have a certificate in Intellectual Property Law, MSc or PEB Foundation exams are an advantage but not essential for your application.
