The Scientist role is to work on both R&D internal projects alongside external commercial projects that are focused on the engineering of Lentiviral vectors, as well as production methods, the establishment of stable viral packaging cell lines and associated processes. You will use a range of gene engineering tools such as CRISPR to develop the vectors as well as characterisation methods such as flow cytometry. They use automated and semi-automated methods on the production of the vectors at a small scale for use within research by their clients.
This is a senior role in the laboratory where you will be leading projects in the lab with the responsibility for mentoring more junior staff as well as overseeing their work and the delivery of projects. Going forward you will be an important part as this function grows because this is a growth area for the company, meaning this role has very strong career progression opportunities.
Desired Skills and Experience:
You will need to be educated to PhD level with preferably some post – doctoral or commercial experience, or with an MSc and commercial / research experience. The focus of this role is on AAV vectors meaning you will need to have demonstrable experience of Lentiviral engineering, production and characterisation. With experience of handling adherent as well as suspended mammalian (e.g. CHO) cell lines. With experience of flow cytometry, qPCR for the characterisation of your work. If you have experience of using gene editing tools such as CRIPSR – this is advantageous to your application. The same applies to use of automation systems cell sorting and characterisation of clonal cell lines – they are advantageous but not essential for your application.
