Job Description

A fabulous new and unique opportunity is now available to take responsibility for the Business Development for centre of excellence who are accelerating drug discovery.  They are achieving this by developing a network of diverse companies within in drug discovery to offer emerging businesses access to the expertise they need to bring their technology to the clinic.  As well as offer scientific support with their unique blend of drug discovery know how, state of the art technologies and informatics.  The role is to cover London, Cambridge and Oxford seeking out potential collaborators to help deliver their mission as well as those who will benefit from their services. 

The Company:
The company are a centre of excellence that is at the forefront of accelerating the drug discovery process to bring new technologies to the clinic.  They provide solutions to the challenges faced by academic and SME’s developing new technologies to enable these to reach the clinic.  A key area for them is the development of a UK wide network where knowledge is shared with them as the facilitator to enable companies to access technologies, guidance, resources and equipment.  They offer technical expertise centered on technology innovation bringing together biomarkers for precision medicine, drug delivery & pre-clinical imaging, complex cell models, target engagement & validation.  Across these areas they have their expertise, drug discovery complemented by state of the art medicines technology.

Their model is to look for those they can partner with to further expand their network or service offering as well as collaborate those with a new technology to provide guidance on how to bring it to the clinic.  Their other core focus is to enter joint collaborative funding projects using their scientific and technical expertise, or provide contracted fee for service projects.  They have expanded rapidly over the last 12 months due to the demand for their services which is a trend that is set to continue. 

The Opportunity:
The role of Business Development Manager is to cover the London, Oxford and Cambridge areas to identify potential partners and collaborators as well as raise awareness of their capabilities and identify new technologies.  As the Business Development Manager you will advocate the company and their services to the SME sector and academia to deliver a pipeline of projects into the company for collaborative R&D projects and partners.   This includes mapping out your territory to identify new opportunities, those developing new technologies to target and building relationships with the relevant technology transfer offices and academic institutions. With the aim to identify and close transactions to secure projects suitable for funding by the company themselves on in collaborative R&D grants such as the Wellcome Trust, MRC etc. 

Along with identifying and closing new opportunities you will also be part of the transaction process to negotiate the contracts, IP and tech transfer working with the internal operations team.  To then take on a role of key account manager to continue to nurture the relationship in line with their longer-term visions. This is a role where you will be joining a recently developed team meaning you will have the freedom to bring you own ideas of how to achieve the goals set and develop the area further, with rapid growth in the role.

Desired Skills and Competencies:
For this role you will need to have demonstrable experience within the life science / pharmaceutical / biopharmaceutical / healthcare / biotech sectors in translational focused projects that includes product development from concept to commercialisation.  You will need to have experience of Intellectual Property in either a commercial or academic environment with experience of UK and European grants e.g. Innovate UK, Wellcome Trust and Horizon 2020.  With experience in the management of key accounts, and customer relationship / project management.
