Next Phase is in search of a Scientist with experience of Lentiviral Vectors to join an ambitious company who are at the forefront of synthetic biology and its application to the discovery, development and manufacture of Biologics, Cell & Gene Therapies. This role is to be part of the Lentiviral Group that is responsible for the engineering, production and establishing stable viral packaging & producer cell lines. Viral Therapeutics is an area that the company wants to continue to expand based on the demand for their expertise.
The company are at the cutting edge of the use of Synthetic Biology to streamline the discovery, development and production of biologics, cell & gene therapies. Their approach combines cutting edge use of bioinformatics taking advantage of algorithms and other tools that drive forward the rational designs of complex biological systems at the DNA level. These are then assembled on their automated platform technology which enables them to develop systems for the discovery, engineering, and production of antibodies, viral vectors, packaging & production cell lines for lentivirus and AAV manufacture, CRISPR libraries and CRISPR engineering. They intend to continue to build in the Viral Therapeutics field based on the capabilities of their technology and the demand for their Lentiviral, AAV and Adenoviral vectors.
They are going through a continued period of expansion due to the demand of their services from industry as well as after entering some major longstanding partnerships. In addition to this they have other technologies under development after securing funding that will further enhance the portfolio of services they can offer. They have an excellent culture where staff are all working closely together with the opportunity of rapid promotion as part of their culture and provide the chance to learn new skills. In addition to the career path they are conscious of the work team members put in and because of this arrange regular events outside of work, away days and other events internally.
The Scientist role is to work on both R&D internal projects alongside external commercial projects that are focused on the engineering of Lentiviral vectors, as well as production methods, the establishment of stable viral packaging cell lines and associated processes. You will use a range of gene engineering tools such as CRISPR to develop the vectors as well as characterisation methods such as flow cytometry. They use automated and semi-automated methods on the production of the vectors at a small scale for use within research by their clients.
The role of Associate Scientist is to work with more senior colleagues on internal and external research projects for the engineering of novel lentiviral vectors. You will predominantly be working from the bench running the experiments with involvement in the design of experimental programmes and project planning. Using a wide range of techniques during your research. You will be working in a creative and innovative environment giving you the chance to learn skills to further develop your career and progress as they grow as a company.
Desired Skills and Experience:
You will need to be educated to MSc level with preferably some research or commercial experience. The focus of this role is on AAV vectors meaning you will need to have experience of Lentiviral engineering or production or characterisation. With experience of handling adherent as well as suspended mammalian (e.g. CHO) cell lines. With experience of flow cytometry, qPCR for the characterisation of your work. If you have experience of using gene editing tools such as CRIPSR – this is advantageous to your application.
In addition to a competitive salary, the company offers an excellent benefits package including:
- 25 days Annual Leave plus Bank Holidays
- Pension with matched employer contribution to 7%
- Health Insurance
- Group Life Cover
- Child Care Voucher Scheme
- Glasses Vouchers
- Modern, welcoming working environment
