Job Description

This truly is a unique role that has the potential to impact significantly on Biotechs with innovative drug discovery technologies who are seeking to bring these through the challenging commercialisation process.  This role is to join a centre of excellence based in the north west with the purpose to accelerate drug discovery and associated technologies.  The purpose is to develop a network of readily available key people and organisations in the sector who are well placed to proved guidance to emerging biotechs to commercialise their technology.

The Company:
The company are a centre of excellence that is at the forefront of accelerating the drug discovery process to bring new technologies to the clinic.  They provide solutions to the challenges faced by academic and SME’s developing new technologies to enable these to reach the clinic.  A key area for them is the development of a UK wide network where knowledge is shared with them as the facilitator to enable companies to access technologies, guidance, resources and equipment.  They offer technical expertise centered on technology innovation bringing together biomarkers for precision medicine, drug delivery & pre-clinical imaging, complex cell models, target engagement & validation.  Across these areas they have their expertise, drug discovery complemented by state of the art medicines technology.

Their model is to look for those they can partner with to further expand their network or service offering as well as collaborate those with a new technology to provide guidance on how to bring it to the clinic.  Their other core focus is to enter joint collaborative funding projects using their scientific and technical expertise, or provide contracted fee for service projects.  They have expanded rapidly over the last 12 months due to the demand for their services which is a trend that is set to continue. 

The Opportunity:
This role is ideal for someone with a background in Drug Discovery who is seeking a role where you can leverage your scientific knowledge along with the knowledge sharing network developed during your career.  The purpose of the role is to develop a UK wide network of relevant individuals, thought leaders, and organisations who have the expertise to provide guidance to smaller companies developing their technologies.  The experts in the network would then be able to provide therapeutic area and drug discovery advice for life science entrepreneurs by setting up panels to de risk projects and mentor companies.  There is the, building blocks of this network in place with your purpose to build on this to develop an effective and knowledgeable network.  With the autonomy to use your vision to achieve this in the fashion you see fit.

This role is not solely about building the network it is to then keep it current with new expertise and up to date.  As well as identify and explore new trends and technologies that are emerging to keep pace with the changing sector.  In addition, this role operates at a senior level in the company meaning you will have influence on th direction the company takes going forward, harnessing of new technologies and new ideas that ensure they stay at the forefront of innovation.

Desired Skills and Competencies:
For this role you will need to have demonstrable experience within the life science / pharmaceutical /  biopharmaceutical / healthcare / biotech sectors with a focus on drug discovery.  With the ability to operate at a senior level with influential people to encourage them to be a part of this network.  With experience of delivering complex programmes / projects / networks within the life sciences area.  You will be experienced at working with innovative technologies with an understanding of the commercialisation process and the value chain.
