A new position has been created within a pioneering Pharmaceutical company, for a QC Chemistry & Components Lab Manager. Are you a highly qualified Chemist with management experience gained in a commercial GLP / GMP environment? We are looking for an inspirational leader with a strong analytical science background, a solid grounding in a Pharmaceutical or Biotech environment (using techniques such as HPLC and GC) and the ambition to undertake a varied and unique role, overseeing a QC Chemistry department. A pioneering UK-based Pharmaceutical company specialising in the development and production of injectable and oral dose vaccines and diagnostic kits for people who suffer from allergies. They have developed an innovative approach to adjuvant therapy which will be of particular interest to someone with a passion for scientific innovation and GMP / sterile production. This is a varied and highly rewarding position, based around the management of a QC Chemistry department. The teams perform analytical testing of raw biological materials and vaccine / diagnostics products, using a range of state-of-the-art chemical analysis techniques (including HPLC, GC and others). You will have a broad range of responsibilities including:
- Ensuring laboratories work within current GXP
- Making sure that analytical methods and procedures are in place and followed consistently
- Hosting laboratory audits from QA and regulatory authorities
- Conducting investigations to establish root cause and appropriate CAPAs
- Maintaining Quality systems within the lab, including OOS, non conformances, annual product reviews and change controls
- Maintaining validated, calibrated and serviced equipment and ensuring the lab equipment log book is managed correctly
- Encouraging the teams to propose ideas and collaborate effectively
- Maintaining QC budgets and department spend
- Organising the management of QC Scientists’ work

The successful candidate will ideally have a degree (or higher) in Chemistry or similar, including a strong understanding of the commercial application of chemical techniques (including HPLC, GC and others) within a Pharmaceutical setting. You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills and experience, gained in a managerial capacity within a regulated, process-led environment. Experience as a QC Team Leader / Manager in a Biopharmaceutical environment would be a particular advantage.
