Job Description

James Hume is recruiting for a Scientist with experience of Viral Vectors to be part of the Process Development team for a cutting-edge company leading the field in Cell & Gene Therapy R&D.  The purpose of the team is part of their Industrialisation Group developing manufacturing processes for viral vectors as part of translational research.  As a Viral Vector Scientist, you will help design, execute, and document process development projects working with collaborators whose technologies they are commercialising.

The Opportunity:

The role of Scientist is within the Process Development team as part of translational research by developing manufacturing methods for use in clinical trials.  You will be using QBD principals to help design, execute, document and deliver Viral Vector projects.  They work with a range of vectors such as Lentiviral, AAV, Adenoviral and Retroviral vectors.  Using quality by design principals and commercial methods e.g. such as cell factory based expansion, and stirred tank bioreactor processing to develop upstream and downstream methods.  As well as primary recovery filtration approaches, purification via chromatographic methods, and analytical techniques.

Alongside the laboratory based work you will be working closely with senior members of the team to manage projects in the laboratory often working autonomously.  You will be working closely with collaborators as a point of contact during the project as well as other duties such as attending face to face meetings and giving presentations.   With other responsibilities to keep up to date with the latest industry developments and be part of academic and knowledge sharing groups.

Desired Skills and Competencies:

As a Scientist, you will need to have a PhD or MSc with commercial experience of upstream and / or downstream bioprocessing of viral vectors, biologics, cell or gene therapies.  If you have GMP experience of the manufacture of therapies or biologics or vectors this is advantageous to your application. Cell culture of mammalian or human cells is essential along with experience of using bioreactors.  Experience of using AKTA technology or other chromatographic techniques is essential for this opportunity.
