The company are at the cutting edge of the use of Synthetic Biology with a platform technology that enables them to engineer DNA which is a unifying theme across all their services – DNA design, expression system optimisation, cell line development and with a focus on viral delivery systems.
Their mission is to streamline the discovery, development, and production of biologics, cell and gene therapies. They achieve this by utilising cutting edge bioinformatics and automated platforms that drive forward the design of complex discovery systems. For example, the development of optimised platforms for the discovery, engineering, and production of antibodies. As well as the development of improved viral vectors, packaging cell lines for lentivirus and rAAV manufacture, high throughout automated CRISPR cell line engineering and screening.
They are going through a continued period of expansion due to the demand of their services from industry as well as after entering some major longstanding partnerships. In addition to this they have other technologies under development after securing funding that will further enhance the portfolio of services they can offer.
The Group Leader Process Development is an exciting role leading a team of 4 scientists covering upstream, downstream and analytical sciences. With the purpose to develop state of the art processes for protein and viral vector manufacture to address unmet needs and facilitate the development of complex biopharmaceuticals. They use a wide range of technologies within the group including AMBR 15m DASGIP STR Bioreactors, TFF, AKTA / Preparative Chromatography, qPCr, SDS Page, and ELISA in their work to develop cutting edge processes. As a group, they work closely with the Protein and Viral Therapeutics teams using the company’s proprietary mammalian cell lines and genetic systems.
You will be managing the group’s wide variety of activities conducting internal R&D and external commercial research programmes for viral vector and protein manufacture. As a company, they use statistical / computational methods to develop efficient processes and platform designs. Group Leaders are expected to take both a scientific and technical leadership role whilst training scientists within the group. The ability to demonstrate a commitment to scientific and development is considered essential for this role.
Desired Skills and Experience:
They are looking for a PhD qualified scientist with experience of process scale up and technology transfer activities in a commercial environment. Knowledge of gene therapy vectors, in particular Lentivirus and AAV, is necessary for this role as is experience of managing a team of scientists. Due to the use of computational methods for the design of platforms experience of automation, design of experimentation and quality by design (QBD) is highly advantageous.
