Job Description

A fast developing Biotech is recruiting for a Data Scientist to join a pioneering T Cell Therapy Biotech who have 3 therapies at the clinical stage with others in the pipeline, to be based at their main R&D site in West London.  They are seeking a Data Scientist who has programming skills (e.g. Python, R) to lead the analysis and a build a database of the data generated by the characterisation of T – Cells during manufacture and R&D work from NGS and Flow Cytometry experiments for example.  As they are an evolving company with short, medium and long term plans the successful applicant will have influence on how the data science function is run with input into how to develop it further as they continue to grow as a company.

The role of Data Scientist is to build a database that integrates data from different sources including characterisation data from the manufacture of their CAR T cells for use in clinical trials.  The data is generated from flow cytometry, next generation sequencing, metabolomics and other research activities.  With the purpose to understand the implications on efficacy, discovery of markers, genetic profiles for efficacy to help improve manufacturing processes for example.

You will be building a database comprising of all the data sources with analysis tools that can be adapted to meet the needs of the department and company.  They outsource some of their functions and you will be working with them to develop the database, with the longer term view to bring this in house.

The Company

They are a pioneering and ambitious Biopharmaceutical company who develop next-generation, programmed T-cell therapies to treat haematological cancers and solid tumours. The organisation has existed for 4 years and is very well funded, with a clear strategy and expansion plan for the next 3 years and beyond. Scientifically, the company has extremely exciting technologies, using a broad suite of proprietary and modular T-cell programming to engineer precisely targeted, controlled and highly active T cells. Commercially, they have a pipeline of product candidates in development (for the treatment of haematological malignancies and solid tumours) and is increasing its GMP production capacity. Based in a state-of-the-art facility in London you will join a team that is doing something genuinely meaningful.

Desired Skills and Experience:

For this opportunity you will need to have experience of data management in a relevant research area in industry or academic environments.  You will have experience of applying statistics, and data analysis tools as part of Biological research – preferably immunology / immune – oncology.  With expertise in programming techniques and languages such as R, and Python.   With familiarity of managing large databases and large data sets using analytical tools.  A PhD is preferable but not essential as an MSc and associated experience is also just as valuable.
