Job Description

This fast-developing Biotech based in Oxford and whose mission is to lead the development of cutting edge technologies to simplify the discovery, developing and production of cell & gene therapies is seeking a Group Leader to take on their Informatics & Automation teams. They combine cutting edge bioinformatics and automated platforms to design complex biological systems.  For example, they have optimized platforms for the discovery, engineering and production of antibodies. 

A large focus for them is applying these platforms and their gene editing expertise to develop improved viral vectors (e.g. Lentiviral and AAV) including the packaging and producing cell lines for commercial & research manufacture.  They have also developed high throughput CRISPR cell line engineering and screening capabilities.

As a company, they are expanding across all areas of their business because of the demand for their services which provide solutions to problems face when manufacturing cell & gene therapies.  Added to this they are continually developing new technologies to be added to their portfolio of bespoke technologies that can be tailored to their client’s needs.

Job Summary:
The Group Leader will be responsible for Informatics & Automation teams and their wide remit to lead both internal and external R&D programmes.  A key focus for this position is to develop these functions to meet their changing business needs for example by improving their process capacity, promoting intelligent experimental design, and novel HTP applications.  Supporting the viral engineering, protein engineering, cell line development and CRISPR cell line engineering and screening activities.

You will also be leading the development and optimisation of their ELN and LIMS systems working with 3rd parties.  As well as implementing biological data management systems which you will be overseeing the development of via your team.  You will be working closely with external stakeholders on bespoke commercial projects as well as internal R&D projects as part of their ongoing focus on innovation taking an academic approach to this area.

Desired Skills and Experience:
For this opportunity you will need to be educated in a relevant scientific area with additional experience preferably within a commercial environment but this is not essential  You will need to have experience of the management and deployment of informatics projects and platforms in the Biotech / Pharma sector.  You will need to have used Javascript and / or Python as a programming language or others that are linked to instrument integration and data analysis & management process.  Experience of Machine Learning, statistical and complex data analytical methods is advantageous. As is knowledge of implementing biological workflows using liquid handling platforms.
