A key focus area for them is the discovery of Biomarkers for use within Precision Medicine. They have an established Biomarker discovery function with a clear strategy using state of the art laboratory functions to deliver translational data for lead optimisation projects and validation data to support clinical trial design. In addition, the have recently entered a long-term partnership with a major medical charity whose aim is for new therapeutics so they can reach patients. The charity works to bring together a network of collaborators to take on the challenge of specific diseases by funding early stage and academic research.
The purpose of the Lead Scientist is to lead the Biomarker strategy and delivery of data to be used in translation research for the projects for the partnership between the company and charity. As the Lead Scientist, you will be involved in projects from the beginning to set out the scope and strategy to take biomarkers from translational to pre-clinical stage. You will deliver the analysis of biomarkers which includes the development of new methodologies within a technical area such as immunology, or molecular genomics for example. Identifying new bioanalytical opportunities for disease segmentation as well as working with new technology companies to advance biomarker science. You will work with other Biomarker specialists internally as well as other functions such as data scientists and statisticians to ensure the data generated is fully utilised. With the responsibility for overseeing the work of lab based scientists to pull together the different functions to deliver projects on time. Working closely with the charity throughout the project lifecycles to ensure goals are not only aligned but achieved.
Desired Skills and Experience:
For the role Lead Scientist, you will need a PhD in a relevant discipline with experience of working within the drug discovery sector which includes Biomarkers and / or ‘omics. With experience of Biomarker studies including their design, management, validation, and close out for drug discovery purposes. Experience of working across different therapeutic areas is advantageous to your application and you will need to have expertise in either molecular genomics, or immunology disease biology or related specialism. Additionally, experience of working in collaborative environments and the commercialisation of new technologies is advantageous.
