Job Description

Summary
A unique Biotech who leading the way in the development of the Cell and Gene therapies industry are seeking Business Development Manager to continue to build their presence in Asia – particularly China and Japan.   They are a centre of excellence that collaborates with both academia to bring therapies across the translational gap into the clinical using their scientific, regulatory, clinical trial and commercial expertise.  Their aim is to make the UK the location to come to for the commercialisation of Cell & Gene therapies with a presence in the EU, US and Asia already.

The purpose of the role is to continue to build on the company’s reputation and completed work in Asia to ensure a continual flow of high quality of projects.  There is a specific focus on the Chinese and Japanese markets because these have the most potential and they already have an identity.  You will identify potential targets to approach to then transact deals for fee for service, collaborative R&D, or other collaborative research projects.

You will be working closely with the Business Development Director who has already set up the presence in the market to develop a strategy to then implement across the region.  You will have a lot of autonomy in the implementation and influence in developing the strategy to be implemented.  Mapping the sector across both academic and commercial markets to identify key targets to then approach. Added to this the Business Development Manager will also build relationships with academic groups, and technology transfer offices within the region as well. Developing and then managing both academic and commercial relationship as an Account Manager, as their view is always longer term to build long lasting partnerships.

Experience
You will need to have previous experience of sales / business development in the life sciences sector, with experience of closing and transacting complex deals.  Ideally with experience of managing overseas business relationships.  You will need to be able to converse in either Mandarin Chinese or Japanese at a level suitable for business relationships.  You will also need to have knowledge of intellectual property as part of life science transactions such as freedom to operate, chain of title and exclusivity. As well as grant supported R&D functions and tech transfer within an academic or commercial environment.
