Job Description

A brand-new role has been created for an Assistant Accountant/Finance Assistant to join an ambitious and successful scientific company in Oxford. This is a permanent position with a highly competitive salary (to be discussed on application) and industry-leading benefits package. 

  
Working closely with the Management Accountant, the Assistant Accountant/Finance Assistant will be a key member of the finance function, processing transactions and maintaining company ledgers, bank accounts and financial systems and offering crucial support to the Management Accountant and the wider organisation. This is a new role created due to the expansion of the business. The company is at the forefront of synthetic biology and its applications with the discovery and development of new medicines, meaning that you will be surrounded by some of Oxford’s leading scientific innovators.

  
This is a full-time position on the Oxford Science Park. The company has ample parking and can be reached by a shuttle bus from Oxford. 

Main responsibilities:  

•        Managing the purchase ledger, including posting purchase invoices and payments
•        Reconciling supplier statements
•        Producing supplier payment runs
•        Dealing with purchase ledger enquiries
•        Managing the sales ledger, including sales invoices
•        Credit control, including collections
•        Posting bank transactions and reconciling bank statements
•        Assisting with month-end management accounts production process
•        Processing employee expenses claims and reconciling credit card statements
•        Ad hoc accounting duties, as part of a growing finance department

Suitable candidates will possess the following skills and experience:
  
•        AAT qualified or studying for ACCA or CIMA, with sound knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping
•        Educated to degree level preferred (though not essential)
•        Experienced in use of accounting software (ideally Sage)
•        Strong numeracy and excellent organisational skills
•        Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•        Impeccable attention to detail and accurate data entry inputting skills
•        A stable work history, with ideally at least 2 years working in an accounts-based role
•        Proficiency with Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel and Word
•        Ability to work to tight deadlines and to handle pressure
•        Excellent level of attendance and timekeeping
•        Ideally based within a 30-minute commute of the Oxford Science Park
•        Payroll processing experience
•        Experienced user of Sage 50 software
