Job Description

A leading Synthetic Biology company based in Oxford are seeking Group Leader for their AAV team whose focus is on internal and external research projects for the engineering of AAV Vectors.  The Group Leader is responsible for leading the team as their line manager but also scientifically to impart your knowledge as well as keep pace with the latest developments and lead internal R&D programmes into the potential of these vectors.
The company are a leader in synthetic biology and are a specialised contract research organisation who are leading the way in streamlining the discovery and development of Biologics and in particular viral vectors for gene therapies.  They have leading capabilities in the development of automated CRISPR mammalian cell line engineering, antibody discovery, and engineering of viral delivery systems.  They achieve this by combining automation and bioinformatic approaches to design complex biological systems.  They are in a rapid phase of expansion due to the potential and demand for their technology and expertise.
Summary of the Group Leader AAV Responsibilities:
This is a leadership role with the responsibility for leading both the science and technical functions of the group to keep these evolving and progressing forwards.  Demonstrating this through your commitment to scientific development and innovation.  With the added responsibility to lead the small team to train and educate them as well as provide day to day project support. 
The team are involved in both internal platform development and commercial projects which you will take the lead on and liaise with external stakeholders regularly.  The projects are focused on AAV vector engineering which includes the establishing and developing screening strategies for the identification if novel capsids and promoters.  To identify what influences viral replication, production and transduction and progressing their transgene optimisation methodologies.
This role represents the chance ownership of a core function of the company with the opportunity to drive their growth using your expertise to be part of this growing company.
Desired Skills and experience:
You will ideally be educated to PhD level in a relevant subject with experience of the engineering of viral vectors – especially AAV.  With a good understanding of vector biology, their genetics and translational applications.  They have a focus on automation and intelligent experimental design so expertise ore previous exposure in this area or data science is an advantage.  As this is a leadership role you will need experience of managing and motivating teams.
