The purpose of the role is to continue to build on existing relationships as well as seek new opportunities by building the company’s reputation by identifying and transacting projects in the South of the UK.  This is to ensure a pipeline of high-quality projects into the company that are core funded by themselves or jointly with other funding bodies e.g. Innovate UK or Horizon 2020.

As the Business Development Manager, you will work with the BD Director to develop the strategy to be implemented.  Mapping the region to identify key accounts, understand their needs, identify technology gaps to target key developers in the region.

There is an established network that you will continue to foster along with seeking new relationships with leading academic institutions, tech transfer offices, spin out companies and industry so that there is a strong pipeline of projects.  A key part of your role will be to lead the transaction process working with the relevant internal experts including technology transfer and intellectual property.  This role is part of a wider team where you will be part of strategic business decision meetings for the territory and their wider plans.

Experience

For this opportunity you will need to be educated to at least BSc level in a relevant life science with a MSc or PhD being advantageous to your application.  You will need to have experience of working in a similar role in account management, sales, business development or key account management in the life sciences sector.  With experience of technology transfer, as well as grant supported R&D collaborations – for example from Innovate UK or Horizon 2020 or Wellcome Trust.  With the ability to interact with academic, clinicians and professionals within industry

This is a field-based role but there is the requirement to be able to attend their central London offices once a week.

The Company:

The company are a center of excellence that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry in the UK.  Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a market leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market.  They collaborate with both academia and industry and they are able to provide the scientific, clinical and commercial expertise needed to overcome the challenges that hinder the commercialisation of these fast developing, cutting edge technologies.  Their longer-term aim is to make the UK a global leader in the development and commercial exploitation of therapies.  They are making great strides towards this aim with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3.  Added to this they have very recently expanding their manufacturing and development operations in Stevenage, doubling these in size, to meet increased demand for their services from the academic and commercial sectors.
