Job Description

A Cell Therapy company who are developing a unique personalised approach to cancer using a proprietary bioinformatics and sequencing platform are recruiting for a Senior Bioinformatician to be based in their Stevenage Laboratories.  As a Senior member of the team you will be providing experimental design, machine learning, data modelling and analysis expertise to drive forward their research portfolio.  

The Senior Bioinformatician with sit within their R&D function working with the different teams e.g. process development, manufacturing and analytical development to play a key role in the development of quantitative methods for product and process characterisation.  This will be across their key current therapies and their upcoming products that cover unmet therapeutic areas working at the cutting edge of research in the development of advanced therapies.  

You will be supporting colleagues with experimental design, sampling and data analysis activities.  Applying your expertise using scripting programmes such as R or Python to analyse and summarise complex datasets as well as applying statistical methods.  As well as applying machine learning approaches to further enhance their use of the data being generated.  

You will be joining an established team which is led by one of the leading lights of the sector with this role created because of their advancement of their therapies to clinical trials and expanding pipeline. 

Desired Skills and Competencies:
For this opportunity, you will be at least educated to PhD with experience of analysing large data sets using R, and / or Python programming languages.  With the ability to script in these languages programmes and machine learning methods.  You will need to have experience in the Cell Therapy, Immunology or Oncology areas for this opportunity.  With the ability to solve problems to challenges faced when developing new ideas or concepts. 

The Company:
The company are developing an approach to curing cancer that is different and enables them to meet unmet needs.  They are develoing nobvel immunotherapies that are targeting the protein markers that are unique to each person and expressed on the surface of each cancer cell.  These are called Neoantigens and their approach is to sequencing data from each patient sample in conjunction with their bioinformatics platform to identify and then develop a cell therapy to target the neoantigens.  This way a personalised treatment can be developed that targets only cancer cells not healthy tissue and destroy the tumours.
