A unique Biotech who are developing DNA based therapies using their novel doggy bone DNA vector as well as applying their expertise to drive forward the methods for DNA manufacture using advanced in vitro methods. They are now seeking a Molecular Biologist to join their R&D Group whose focus is on developing novel DNA structures and optimising current methods for the production of dbDNA, proteins and DNA libraries.
Role Purpose: The purpose of the Research Scientist is to work with both the research and manufacturing teams to translate new concepts into working solutions to streamline their DNA construction pipeline. You will be designing the construction of plasmids for DNA constructs to then develop streamlined systems for the expression of proteins, cloning and library construction.
This is a hands-on role where you will be suing your creative thinking to conduct a range of molecular cloning techniques such as site directed mutagenesis, subcloning, gene assembly, DNA extraction, primer design, PCR & DNA sequencing. Working on collaboration with colleagues to set out experimental programmes to then execute these in the laboratory focusing on both internal and external research projects at the cutting edge of research.
Due to the positioning of this role you will be exposed to a range of innovative concepts with the chance to contribute to these from a molecular biology perspective to drive these forward.
Desired Skills and Competencies: For this opportunity, you will need to have at least a BSc with a higher qualification such as an MSc or PhD being advantageous. You will need to have diverse molecular biology skills with proven experience in recombinant DNA cloning / gene assembly, genetic assembly, Gibson assembly and Golden Gate cloning. You will need to have experience of PCR, protein analysis, and DNA sequencing. With a creative approach and ability to solve problems.
The Company: A pioneering company who have developed a revolutionary platform technology for the in vitro DNA amplification method for the production of synthetic DNA that can be used in therapeutics, viral vectors, diagnostic, and synthetic biology applications. They are based in state of the art laboratories in Hampton and are a dynamic company who are leaders in the field with great potential going forward that is now being realised as they enter a phase of growth.
The Translational Group are responsible for developing gene therapies and DNA based vaccines alongside external collaborative projects to develop methods and manufacture DNA for use in clinical trials. Behind this there are others in the development pipeline to be realised. This is a growing function with the Manufacturing Scientist adding to this to further develop their capabilities.
