Job Description

A clinical stage Cell Therapy company who are developing a unique and personalised approach to curing cancer are recruiting for a Senior Scientist to join the R&D team based at their Stevenage laboratories.  As a company they are developing personalised cell therapies for the treatment of lung cancer and melanoma and have therapies entering the clinic complemented by an expanding translational pipeline.


This Senior Scientist is within the Translational Group whose purpose is to develop new concepts into workable solutions and opitmise existing concepts.   As a Senior Scientist you will be leading projects to further optimise the characterisation of existing therapies to support the process development and manufacturing teams.  To improve their products as these are scaled up as therapies progress to the clinic and cross the translational gap.  You will also validate and implement new assays to further support their understanding of how the therapy changes during the scale up process to deliver a solution to challenges faced.


The focus will be in the development of cell based and immunoassays to charaterise products to better understand what is happening during the scale up or tech transfer process to then help deliver solutions.  They use a wide range of assays but have a particular focus on flow cytometry, Elispot and PCR.   


Desired Skills and Competencies:


For this opportunity, you will be at least educated to PhD or MSc with experience, and the ability to develop cell based and immuno assays in either an industrial or academic environment. With experience of mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, Elispot and other cell-based assays.  Working within a regulated environment such as GCP, or GLP, or GMP or GCLP or ISO is advantageous to your application.


The Company:


The company are developing an approach to curing cancer that is different and enables them to meet unmet needs.  They are develoing nobvel immunotherapies that are targeting the protein markers that are unique to each person and expressed on the surface of each cancer cell.  These are called Neoantigens and their approach is to sequencing data from each patient sample in conjunction with their bioinformatics platform to identify and then develop a cell therapy to target the neoantigens.  This way a personalised treatment can be developed that targets only cancer cells not healthy tissue and destroy the tumours.
