Job Description

Are you an experienced Lab Technician, available at short notice to join a state-of-the-art teaching laboratory in Falmer, Brighton? We are looking for a hard-working, reliable individual with experience in servicing a commercial or academic laboratory, including setting up experiments and instruments, managing lab consumables and other stocks, maintaining and repairing equipment, moving and managing samples, and assisting with deliveries. If you can start in early September and if you live near Falmer (or have accommodation available in the Brighton area), please get in touch ASAP for full details. This is a varied, busy role, supporting the teaching of higher education Chemistry students in Brighton.
This could be a great opportunity for a science graduate looking to gain experience, or for an experienced Lab Technician. Most importantly, you must show that you can work in a busy, varied and fast-paced environment.
The Contract
You will work until the end of December initially, with a pay rate that is equivalent to £21,000 salary (around £11 / hour, plus additional allowance to cover statutory NI and holiday amounts). You will be able to start as soon as the beginning of September and will need to have started by 21st September in order to be ready for the students starting on the 28th.
Your standard hours will be 9am-5pm, though flexibility is available to start and finish slightly earlier. Parking is available outside but it is chargeable, so you might prefer to travel by public transport (the lab is only a few minutes’ walk from Falmer station).
You must be a reliable, hard-working and approachable individual with some experience in a lab, whether a commercial laboratory, or a university / research / college laboratory. You must be physically fit, energetic, good-natured and willing to help with anything. A relevant scientific qualification (e.g. BSc, NVQ, HNC) would be helpful, backed with practical lab experience.
