The Company

The company is leading the Synthetic Biology field in the UK and its application to the discovery, development and production of biologics, especially viral vectors for the delivery of Gene therapies.  What sets them apart is the potential of not just their current platform technology which enables them to provide expertise in DNA design, expression system optimisation, cell line development, and engineering of viral delivery systems.  But also, their upcoming technologies they are currently commercialising and for which they have received significant funding.  In addition, this has led to expansion to the US based on demand for their services.

They take a creative and entrepreneurial approach to all they do enabling you to use your science and bring your ideas to an exciting company where they are valued.

The Opportunity:

The purpose of the Group Leader – Cell Line Development is to manage the team engineering stable mammalian cell lines for the production of therapeutic proteins and viral vectors.  Acting as their mentor by using your science and creative thinking to deliver solutions to problems faced.  The team is c6 scientists in size who will be conducting the hands-on bench work supported by a team of technicians.  The projects are a mixture of internal platform commercialisation projects alongside external client projects.  Working in close collaboration with other internal Group Leaders to ultimately deliver projects on time.

This is an influential role where you will be working closely with internal and external stakeholders as the SME, taking a progressive approach to innovation and scientific development.  They are continually searching for new ideas, concepts and technologies to commercialise, which if successful you will be a part of.

Desired Skills and Experience:

They are looking for a PhD, or equivalent, qualified scientist in a relevant discipline with experience of the genetic engineering of cell lines for the manufacture of viral vectors and / or therapeutic proteins.  You will need to have experience of supervising or leading small teams and giving scientific direction to them.  You will have experience of genetic engineering tools to create stable lines, being familiar with CHO and HEK cell types, for the production of therapeutic proteins and / or viral vectors.  If you have experience of working with novel / new platforms then this is advantageous to your application.
