Summary

This is a unique opportunity to join an organisation who invest in cutting edge Biotech/Biomedical innovation.  Their purpose is to ensure new innovative technology is supported throughout its development to ensure the product reaches the market utilising a variety of tools to do so.  The company invests in a wide range of scientific innovation ranging from agriculture, energy, high value manufacturing to health and care.  They are looking for someone to manage development projects relating to investment into Precision/Discovery Medicines research plus the selection of new companies for investment.

The Company

The company are the UK’s innovation agency helping to develop new technologies that will have an impact on our future.  Providing investment and development assistance to ensure these innovative technologies are successful moving through development to commercialisation.  They have a wide range of tools in place to assist companies developing these new technologies which will make an impact on society, business and the economy going forward.  The tools available range from investment through to collaborations to assist with research and development.  They have selected areas that have the greatest potential for boosting the UK’s growth as well as other areas they are looking to expand their reach.  This particular opportunity is within their Health and Care programme investing in companies who are leading research into a range of new technologies.  Providing solutions to serious health problems in the UK across a number of therapeutic areas.

The Role

The purpose the Innovation Lead is to implement strategies to support the development of the Precision/ Discovery Medicines sector by creating an infrastructure for the commercialisation of these technologies. 

To do so you use your expertise of this fast-developing sector to contribute to the development of their innovation strategy and then implement it.  Specifically enabling the acceleration of growth of companies in this sector by helping them to develop and introduce new products, processes and services.    You will build relationships with academic and commercial organisations who are developing these technologies to provide technical advice or make connections between organisations that would be mutually beneficial.   This will enable you to keep up to date with the latest developments in this sector and how to support them.  You will also develop relationships with regulatory bodies, trade associations, and government bodies to better advise those you are working with.

Alongside the management of ongoing projects you will also run competitions for the selection of new businesses to invest in.  You will assess these businesses against set criteria to measure the scientific possibilities and potential of the technologies.  Once selected you will help design and implement a framework to achieve commercialisation and manage the project going forward till completion. 

Experience

You will need to demonstrable prior experience of working within organisation within the diagnostic, precision medicine or discover medicine sectors.  With the responsibility for the management of projects/ programmes relating to the development of new technologies.  You will have experience of the commercialisation of new technologies and making strategic decisions to ensure this occurs.  Ideally you will be educated to PhD level or equivalent in a Life Science, but educated to degree level or equivalent is essential.
