A Desktop Support Officer needed for a progressive Cell and Gene Therapy Company based in Braintree. The use of leading technology and innovations enabled this company to provide life-changing therapies to be developed, helping thousands of people all throughout the world. They have recently opened a new centre with a primary focus on the manufacture of the Covid 19 vaccines. They do also however have clear and exciting future plans for the centre, beyond the vaccine itself.
The company is seeking an experienced Desktop Support Officer whose main responsibilities will be providing support through major system implementations, hands on desktop and technical support for both internal staff and the wider company.

The company is offering a competitive salary and benefits package that includes an annual bonus, contributed pension and Personal Health Insurance (PHI).

This position is a 12 month fixed term contract, with a possibility of being extended or going permanent at the end of the contract. 

Key responsibilities of the Desktop Support Officer will include:
  • Acting as a member of the IT team in providing strategic IT direction for the business and operational support of IT infrastructure, hardware and software
  • Assisting with overseeing the security aspects of the company/project IT set-up including websites that may be hosted internally or externally.
  • Liaison with potential and confirmed Collaborators and their IT support partners/staff in coming into and operating within the Manufacturing Centre. In particular, securing the access and integrity of data made available to individual Collaborators.
  • Proactive assistance with the systems implementations projects to assist with a smooth implementation and roll out.
  • Ensuring that all IT assets are properly controlled, and software is correctly licensed.
  • Ensuring that acceptable service levels are maintained across all systems.
  • Dealing with hardware issues, desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices both in person and remotely
  • Providing investigation, diagnosis, resolution, and recovery for hardware/software problems. When unable to resolve, escalating in accordance with Help Desk escalation processes.
  • Maintaining overall ownership of user’s issue & service ensuring that they receive resolution within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Managing service requests, software installations, new computer setups, upgrades, etc.
  • Recording incident resolutions in the Help Desk tool
  • Support of VoIP telephony and Android mobile phones
  • Deploying new electronic equipment as and when required
  • Working with TCP/IP and resolving general networking issues
  • Assisting in the facilitation of workshops / training for Applications, Desktop environment, IT tools etc.
Experience Required to be the successful Desktop Support Officer:
  • Experience of GAMP 5 and working within a GxP environment.
  • Proven experience of 1st/2nd and 3rd line infrastructure support
  • Proven knowledge of multiple desktop programs, configuration and debugging techniques.
  • Proven experience of VoIP telephony systems and mobile phone support
  • Proven experience of network technologies
  • Experience of resolving issues efficiently and contributing to the improvement of a Company’s infrastructure.
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to effectively deploy resources and manage multiple projects of diverse scopes in a cross-functional environment.
  • Previous exposure to an R&D interfacing environment would be beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience.
