A pioneering company who are at the centre of the Cell & Gene Therapy sector are seeking a Scientist to join their core R&D group based in Central London.   They are recruiting for a scientist to join their expanding Viral Vector team with relevant expertise to be a part of Process Development projects.  There is a growing number of projects for the commercialisation of viral vectors that they need additional expertise for.  They are aiming to continually develop novel methods for the delivery of life changing therapies.

The Role of Scientist: 

As a Scientist you will be providing input into the design of experimental programmes and then executing these in the laboratories. With the focus on the development of bioprocessing techniques for viral vectors – lentiviral AAV and adeno associated.  Developing novel expansion and virus production techniques using stare of the art  bioreactors, filtration, chromatographic methods, and analytical techniques.  The role of scientist is deigned to give you the exposure to drive your career forward into either in a role that has greater technical focus or leadership.

Responsibilities includes:

  • Contribute to the design of projects, working with the Senior and Lead Scientists for viral vector projects
  • Execute upstream and / or downstream process development experiments.
  • Oversee more junior scientist, operating as their mentor.
  • Lead cell culture of cell lines using a variety of bio reactors.
  • Use purification techniques such as AKTA and other filtration techniques.
  • Analyse the raw data to present results to colleagues, project teams and collaborators.
  • Work with Project Managers and Tech Transfer teams for the transfer of Viral Vector Processes.
  • Develop and write SOP’s and reports for Tech Transfer and regulatory submissions.

Required Skills and Expertise:

 Experience in the Process Development of Viral Vectors – Upstream or Downstream

  • Cell culture of human and / or mammalian cell lines
  • Experience in the use of AKTA chromatography and other purification processes
  • Experience in the manufacture of viral vectors or relatable therapies e.g. cell & gene.
  • PhD or MSc in relevant life sciences area.
  • GMP experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience of writing and developing SOP’s.
