Do you have a Chemistry-based degree and some strong lab-based experience gained in a QC role? A brand-new position has been created for a QC Scientist to join the Quality Control team of a leading Biopharmaceutical company in Worthing, West Sussex.

You will work with a range of techniques including HPLC, GC and traditional Wet Chemistry. You must be an enthusiastic, motivated individual who enjoys undertaking lab-based responsibilities and is keen to develop a career within a unique and scientifically challenging environment.

The company offers a competitive salary and benefits package, together with excellent training and a supportive, friendly working environment. Your working hours are 8am – 4pm, Monday to Friday, though there may occasionally be the need to start earlier (earliest 7am) or later.


The Role

Reporting to the QC Team Leader, you will join a team of around 10 Chemists who work alongside the Microbiology and Biochemistry labs to form the Quality Control (QC) department.

As a QC Scientist your responsibilities will include:


  • Conducting Non-Conformance and Out Of Specification investigations
  • Undertaking the testing of raw materials for vaccine products (particularly using HPLC and GC)
  • Assisting in the scheduling of different QC tests
  • Conducting training of more junior staff
  • Participating in the maintenance and optimisation of lab equipment and ensuring that reagent stocks are ordered and maintained efficiently.

Experience

The successful candidate will have a strong Chemistry education (BSc or MSc/MChem), backed with some experience gained in a commercial laboratory. Pharmaceutical QC experience, following GLP/GMP regulations, would be a strong advantage, though candidates will be considered from other settings such as Food, Cosmetics, Diagnostics or Medical Device testing. If you have experience of pharmacopoeia testing of raw materials this would be a bonus, together with experience of conducting inspections and quality investigations.

You must have a good understanding of chromatography techniques like HPLC and GC and will need to have the ambition to progress a long-term career in the lab. You will need to have excellent communication skills, the ability to train others, a positive and supportive attitude and a real desire to further your knowledge within a unique, ever-evolving Pharmaceutical company.
