Are you a QC Team Leader or Senior QC Scientist with a strong background in GMP? Do you wish you could step up into a more formal leadership or management role, but are you limited by the lack of opportunities where you are at the moment? Are you open to relocation? In that case, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

A brand-new role has been created with a pioneering cell therapy organisation in Oss, Netherlands. We are looking for a QC professional with a scientific degree (biotechnology, cell biology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry etc) and proven experience gained in a regulated, fast-paced QC environment. You will need to speak fluent English (either as a first or second language) and will need to demonstrate that you have the potential to become a great leader if you are given the resources, training and opportunity to do so.

If you have experience in a GMP-regulated Biotech, Pharmaceutical or ATMP environment, this will be a great chance to join a fast-growing, ambitious regenerative medicine business.

The Company

An innovative cell therapy organisation that has grown from 7 to 50 people in a short space of time. With their first product in clinical trials, a new facility planned in 2023, and plans to grow the QC lab from 6 to 10 people in the next few months, the company is busy, forward-thinking and highly supportive of new ideas. The business is based on amazing science, providing an alternative to T-cell therapy, and they are very well financed. With 30 different nationalities across the business, they pride themselves on their supportive and inclusive working culture.

Based in the east side of the Netherlands, this could be a great career move for someone looking to move to a beautiful part of the country and join an innovative, growing organisation. You will be paid a very generous salary (as an example, an experienced QC Manager would earn around €7,500/month gross, or €90,000 annual pre-tax; so this is what you can work up to) and the company will provide financial support to people relocating from other countries.

The Role

This will be a varied and busy position, based around the management of a QC lab which is currently made up of 6 people. The lab uses a range of cell biological assays and analytical procedures including ELISA, Flow Cytometry / FACS, Cell Counting, Viability testing and Sterility testing.

The company wants to hire someone who is stepping up into leadership and has the potential to be QC Manager. Once fully established, you will have a broad range of responsibilities including:

  • Managing programmes & projects to deliver significant improvements in QC and product sciences capabilities, efficiency, throughput and compliance.

  • Leading, organising and managing required Laboratory functions such as equipment, compliance investigation and personnel issues within the team including performance management, absence management and development.

  • Organising the management of QC work, both for short-term turnaround and ongoing projects

  • Representing the QC department at management meetings, collaborating with QA, Production and other departments

  • Encouraging the team to propose ideas and collaborate effectively

  • Assisting with writing protocols, reports, SOPs and testing documents

  • Ensuring laboratories work within current GXP

  • Making sure that analytical methods and procedures are in place and followed consistently

  • Hosting laboratory audits from QA and regulatory authorities

  • Conducting investigations to establish root cause and appropriate CAPAs

  • Maintaining Quality systems within the lab, including OOS, non-conformances, annual product reviews and change controls

This is a genuinely unique, busy and exciting role with many different aspects, presenting a real opportunity to progress to the next phase of your career. Full details, including a comprehensive job spec, will be provided on application.

Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have a degree (or higher) in a scientific discipline (cell biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology etc), together with strong experience gained in a GMP-regulated QC lab environment. Experience in a biologics, vaccinescell biology, human cell culturing, stem cell or similar environment would be an advantage, but equally we will consider people with more traditional Pharmaceutical experience. You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills, perhaps through deputising for your manager in your current role. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to learn, listen actively to others, and build collaborative relationships.

This is a permanent role in the Netherlands. Candidates will be invited to relocate from the UK or other countries, provided you speak a high level of English.
