A pioneering company who are at the centre of the Cell & Gene Therapy sector are seeking a Senior Scientist to take on an influential position within their R&D Group based in 1200 m2 laboratories in Central London.  The role of Lead Scientist is to provide leadership and in-depth expertise in the process, analytical and manufacturing development of Cell & Gene Therapies

As a company they collaborate with industry and academia to ensure these life changing therapies reach patients.  They offer cutting edge capabilities to take products to clinical trials through the application of their process development, manufacturing and analytical sciences.  Using their innovative approaches to solve complex problems.

The purpose of this role is to play a key part in the development of novel cell & gene therapies through the deliver of projects focusing on the bioprocessing of PSC’s in bioreactors.  As this is a Senior role you will be working with Lead Scientists, Head of Departments and Directors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan, write, and execute complex experimental programmes.
  • Use your expertise and knowledge of PSC biology to develop scalable GMP Ready processes.
  • Use your expertise of ATMP/Bioengineering to deliver scalable processes.
  • With a focus on their differentiation and maintenance using different Bioreactors.
  • Working in a matrix environment drive the design & planning of laboratory work.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in relation to PSC processing.
  • Develop and agree resource plans, budgets, and timelines with Lead Scientist
  • Mentor and train more junior members of the team.
Required Skills and Expertise:

  • PhD in relevant area or BSc or MSc complemented by relevant experience.
  • In depth knowledge of PSC biology and expertise in maintenance and differentiation of PSC’s in bioreactor systems.
  • Experience of translating static cell culture processes to agitated systems is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals for stirred tank reactor scale up
  • Knowledge of designing & testing prototype bioprocessing equipment or upgrades to existing equipment is desirable
  • Knowledge of tech transfer and GMP regulations is desirable.
  • Experience of differentiating towards haematopoietic lineage is advantagoeus.
