A pioneering global company who are at the forefront of the Cancer diagnostics sector are seeking a Statistical Geneticist to drive the development of new analytical methods and interpretation of NGS data. To join their expanding R&D team based in Oxford.  As a company their aim is to eradicate cancer and the suffering it cause through the development of tests to detect cancer earlier and a precision medicine approach. 

They are a global company headquartered in the US with the Oxford location being responsible the development of a revolutionary technology that makes the epigenetic analysis of DNA methylation more specific, accurate, and cost effective than ever before.  The long-term perspective is that this technology will become central to a host of new healthcare and research applications.  What this means is the company is now developing rapidly with the need to add expertise to its R&D teams prior to expanding its operations further to realise its full potential.

They are seeking a Statistical Geneticist to apply your expertise in a creative R&D environment to create new methods for the analysis and interpretation of NGS data.  With the responsibility to establish the tools and methods for the analysis of DNA sequences and methylation data to support R&D and pre-clinical projects.

  • Contribute to the design of experimental programmes working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Lead the design of novel methodologies and classifier algorithms for the analysis of methylation data of bisulphite and enzyme treated DNA from NGS Data. to support the assay development team.
  • Apply your expertise to provide technical guidance for the design and analysis of experiments across all phases.
  • Working in collaboration with others contribute to the code stack.
  • Contribute to the machine learning programmes for the linking of DNA methylation and variation data to a scientifically or clinically relevant outcome.
  • Remain up to date with latest development in literature focused on the statistical analysis of methylation data for high throughput sequencing technologies and keep the team updated.
 Skills & expertise:

They are seeking a scientist with the following experience:

  • PhD in statistical genetics or applied mathematics, statistics, or related fields.
  • Experience of working in academic or commercial setting of genomics and / or DNA sequencing field with exposure to cancer research.
  • Experience of working with statistical genetics and genetic data.
  • Expertise of programming such as python and / or R
  • Experience with machine learning or data sciences approaches is an advantage but not essential.
