Summary
James Hume is recruiting for a Business Development Manager who has experience of working in the Life Sciences sector to join a Biotech leading the way in the development of the Cell and Gene Therapy industry in Europe.   They are a centre of excellence that collaborates with both academia to bring therapies to the market using their scientific, regulatory, clinical trial and commercial expertise.  They are seeking a Business Development Manager to continue to expand their reach in Europe by taking over a successful territory by seeking new opportunities and manage existing accounts.

The Company

The company are a centre of excellence that is at the forefront of research into the development of cell and gene therapies to take these across the translational gap, through clinical trials to launch.  Their impact on this sector is growing as they continue to provide the pathway to bring therapies to the clinic and share their expertise with collaborators.  Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market.  They collaborate with both academia and industry and they are able to provide the scientific, clinical and commercial expertise needed to overcome the challenges that hinder the commercialization of these fast developing, cutting edge technologies.  Their longer term aim is to make the UK a global leader in the development and commercial exploitation of therapies.  They are making great strides towards this aim with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3.  Added to this they are expanding their manufacturing and development operations to meet increased demand for their services from the academic and commercial sectors.

The Role

The purpose of the Business Development Manager is to take control of the EU based territory covering France, Germany, Italy and Sweden.  With the responsibility for not only managing existing collaborative relationships with academic institutions, technology transfer offices, and spin outs to ensure a continual flow of programmes to the company.  But also you will map out your territory to identify new opportunities, those developing new technologies to target and building relationships with the relevant technology transfer offices. These programmes cover winning joint collaborative grants such as with Horizon 2020, or fee for service or winning core funding.  Working with customers to support the grant writing and submission process, then if successful work as part of the team to complete the transaction and technology transfer into the R&D site.

This is an established and successful territory that has great potential as the company’s influence continue to grow.  This means there is an established customer base for you to work with and grow to complement the new business you will seek.  You will be working closely with the Director of Business Development to become established and then grow in the role over time to develop your own career.

Experience
You will need to have previous experience of sales / business development in the life sciences sector, if you have experience of working in the EU this is an advantage but not necessary for your application.  You will need to have experience or technology transfer in either a commercial or academic environment with experience of grant submissions and writing.

This is a field based role but there is the requirement to be able to attend their central London offices once a week.
