Job Description

A brand new opportunity has been created by an award-winning, innovative Biotech business in Welwyn Garden City, for a Market Development Director.James Hume is looking for a versatile, creative individual with an understanding of the drug research and clinical development and commercialisation process. This is a newly created position in which you will take responsibility for the company’s sales and marketing strategy and materials, contributing to the provision of viable business leads.

If you are an ambitious Marketing professional, ideally with a scientific / technical degree (PhD or MSc preferred), this is a genuinely unique career opportunity in which you will work with passionate, entrepreneurial individuals who have developed a new technology at the forefront of the application of microfluidics within personalised medicine.

This is a permanent position with a very competitive salary (up to £65,000 basic depending on experience), plus share options (to be discussed on application) and a generous company bonus. As part of the senior management team, you will have significant impact on the development, promotion and growth of the business and will be rewarded accordingly.

The Company:

The company are pioneers in the development of single and multi-organ-on-a-chip plates by harnessing microfluidics to recreate the structure and function of human organs.  The purpose of this is to generate more accurate data for efficacy and toxicology studies to replace animal models with a superior alternative.  They have developed two products, one ready for launch and another soon to follow, that are easy to use, flexible and can be automated for a range of cell types.

As a company they have already achieved notable successes such as over the last 3 years 25 pharmaceutical companies have used their proprietary model in drug discovery and drug safety programmes.  They are now at an exciting stage of their development where they will have an impact on the sector with ambitious growth plans based on the demand for their unique products.

The Opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity where you will be joining the senior management of the company where you will not only be delivering the remit of the Marketing and Sales Development Director but also contributing to wider organisational and strategic discussions.

This role has been created by the need to bring in specialised marketing expertise to initially identify the identify the best market for their products through the use of the data generated from R&D, and publications in conjunction with customer and market research.  You will then develop and deliver a marketing strategy by taking ownership of the company’s brand to drive new sales growth by the provision of marketing qualified leads for the sales team.

This Market Development Director role has significant development potential as the company grows which includes the shorter term where you will be leading the development of the sales team who will then report to you. You will have the opportunity to bring your creative ideas into a collaborative working environment where all are committed to the goal of delivering superior alternatives to animal testing.

Desired Skills and Competencies:

For this opportunity, you will need to have experience of marketing in the Biotech and / or Pharma sector where you have proven experience of delivering creative ideas and approaches that have led to successful campaigns.  Ideally you will be educated to a higher level in a relevant life science but this is not necessarily essential. You will need experience of the full range of marketing activities including the delivery of strategy, market research, digital marketing and delivery of tactical campaigns.  Due to the strong links that this opportunity has to sales, experience of working in a business-to-business sales environment or very closely with this area is advantageous to your application.
