Formulations Chemist

Formulations Chemists develop and refine pharmaceutical formulations to optimize drug performance, delivery, and patient compliance. They work closely with analytical chemists and process engineers to translate R&D concepts into viable drug products.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Developing dosage forms – Including tablets, liquids, suspensions, and controlled-release formulations.

  • Performing compatibility studies – Evaluating excipients and APIs to ensure physical and chemical stability.

  • Supporting tech transfer and scale-up – Collaborating with manufacturing to ensure formulation reproducibility under GMP.

  • Maintaining regulatory-compliant documentation – Preparing development reports and contributing to CTD submissions.

  • Conducting process optimization studies – Using DoE and QbD principles to refine formulation parameters.

Candidates typically hold degrees in pharmaceutical sciences or chemistry and have hands-on experience with formulation tools and GMP practices.​

Brighton
