Senior Software Engineer
Senior Software Engineers in life sciences lead the development of robust, scalable software systems that support scientific research, manufacturing, diagnostics, and clinical operations. They architect solutions that meet both scientific requirements and regulatory standards, while mentoring junior developers and ensuring high code quality.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the development of platforms and applications – This may include tools for managing lab workflows (LIMS/ELN), data visualization dashboards, digital health platforms, or bioinformatics tools.
Architecting and optimizing system infrastructure – Ensuring performance, security, and reliability for cloud-hosted or on-premise scientific systems, often working within DevOps pipelines.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams – Engaging with scientists, QA, regulatory, and data teams to ensure the software reflects end-user needs and compliance obligations.
Implementing best practices in codebase management – Including automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and version control in GxP or ISO-compliant environments.
Supporting integration with lab instruments or third-party APIs – Creating interfaces for seamless data flow and interoperability across platforms.
Strong candidates are proficient in Python, Java, C#, or JavaScript (e.g., React, Node.js), and have experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, as well as tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and RESTful APIs.
North West England
North West England is one of nine official regions of England. It consists of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. Major towns and cities in the North West include Manchester, Liverpool, Bolton, Carlisle, Macclesfield, Knutsford, Blackpool and Warrington.
Cumbria in the north of the region is largely rural whereas the south of the region is much more densely populated. The North West is known as the “Northern Powerhouse” thanks to its strong history in manufacturing. In days gone by the region was particularly famous for its textile industry, but the manufacturing today is based more on food and drink, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and transport. Digital technology, including games and software development, is also a major sector in the region, particularly in Liverpool and Manchester which have both seen huge growth in tech start-ups.
Famous people born in the North West: Wayne Rooney, footballer and Paul McCartney, musician.
