A device that was originally developed to target mixed urinary incontinence in women has been successfully repurposed to treat a boy with severe epilepsy. Oran Knowlson, became the first patient to trial a skull-fitted neurostimulator to control seizures. This device reduced his daytime seizures by 80%, significantly improving his quality of life.
The surgery was part of a trial at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, targeting Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
