A truly pioneering Biotech who have developed automated mammalian cell engineering technologies and their application to accelerate the development and manufacture of Gene Therapies, CRISPR / Gene Editing and Antibody based therapeutics. Are seeking a Bioinformatician to play a key role in their R&D programmes applying complex algorithms for the analysis of large volumes of data, in particular sequencing.

Based in Oxford you will be part of a developing team that is increasing in size and influence across the business on the commercialisation of their cutting-edge technologies. Using your expertise to accelerate the discovery, development, and manufacture of cell & gene therapies. The core focus of the Scientist role is to develop and implement bioinformatics pipelines that includes Machine Learning techniques. You will be working with internal colleagues, Group Leaders, and external collaborators in this role. Please note that remote working is possible with this role.


The responsibilities of the Scientist - Bioinformatician includes:

  • Developing and implementing experimental programmes working with internal and external stakeholders

  • Making recommendations to optimise procedures and processes, with a focus on data integrity and accuracy.

  • Applying programming and scripting in languages such as R or Python to develop methods for the analysis of large datasets

  • Analysing datasets from Next Generation Sequencing

  • Applying machine learning approaches for the analysis of unique and large datasets

  • Supervising more junior members of the team.



Skills & expertise:

They are seeking a scientist with the following experience:

  • MSc or PhD in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics, or Relevant Discipline

  • Demonstrable experience of working with NGS – e.g. fastq / bed for example

  • Expertise in standard bioinformatics file types -  e.g. fasta, sam, bam

  • Scripting expertise in R or Python

  • Experience of containerization languages e.g. vitural env, conda / biconda, Bash

  • Experience of working with control software such as github or bitbucket.
