Summary:

This is a Scientist opportunity where you will have responsibilities for the design and execution of experimental programmes. You will also gain exposure to move to a more senior role in the future. The focus of the research is the development and validation of new iPSC neurons e.g. astrocytes from human sources. As well as exploring new concepts, as the company continues to explore the potential of their technology.

The company:

They are based in Cambridge and their step change technology that is a combination of stem cell biology and synthetic biology. The purpose of this is to accelerate the discovery, development, and manufacture of cell therapies through the control of synthetic biology circuits.

Their aim is to build a scalable model that enables the production of cells, that are actually affected by the targeted disease, and accelerates the development of cures.  Their focus is currently on human induced Neurological and Skeletal stem cells.

They received significant funding to complement their own plans which has led to a rapid expansion as they meet their current aims and work towards the development of new ideas.

The Role of Senior Scientist:

As a Scientist, you will be contributing to the design of R&D projects for the design, and execution of reprogramming strategies to obtain human iPSC derived neurons.  This role offers the chance to gain additional exposure to progress your career.

      • Contributing to the design and execution of experimental programmes for the reprogramming of cells to generate human iPSC derived neurons and / or glia cells.

      • Working with external partners to develop and characterise new cell types and disease models.

      • Supervision of more junior team members to ensure project delivery.

      • Collaborative working with other teams such as Project Management, Product Development to meet product launch timelines.

      • Contributing to the development of proposals across differing stages of the pipeline.

Your Expertise:

For this opportunity you will need to have:

  • A PhD in stem cells, pluripotent stem cells, neurobiology or related area.

  • Knowledge of the molecular mechanisms for the definition of cellular identities in the CNS.

  • Use of iPSC derived glia cells in disease modelling.

  • Ability to culture Pluripotent Stem Cells, iPSC derived glia cells – e.g. astrocytes.

  • Expertise in the development and use of Characterisation Assays.
