According to the most recent Cell & Gene Therapy Skills Demand Survey, the anticipated 2024 rate of growth has already been achieved by the end of 2021. Total employment in the UK Cell & Gene Therapy sector is at around 7,000 people, more than half of whom are in Bioprocessing roles.

There is clearly a fast-growing workforce in Biomanufacturing in the UK, requiring people with a diverse range of skills. Career opportunities are far-reaching and exciting, and there seems to be an increasing openness from ATMP (Advanced Therapy) businesses to train people up who come from other industries, such as mainstream Pharma / Biopharma or Food companies.

Careers follow a series of phases. You won’t necessarily find your ‘dream job’ right now, but if you make smart decisions and have valuable conversations now then they can help set you up to find your dream job further down the line.

Perhaps your ‘dream job’ (if this exists!) is something that you can begin working towards now and have in your sights for the future. Speaking with a recruiter who knows your market, and who has helped other people with similar backgrounds to you before, can be really valuable in understanding what your future options can be.

We are always available for a confidential discussion if this might help you. Not every recruiter sees people as pound signs.
