The theme for today’s International Women’s Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias. What does this mean? Bias, whether conscious or unconscious, can had a significant impact on people’s abilities to achieve their potential. For International Women’s Day 2022 (#IWD2022) the message is to confront and combat bias that may hinder women from advancing, even relatively progressive society.

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:

  • Celebrate women's achievements

  • Raise awareness about women's equality

  • Lobby for accelerated gender parity

  • Fundraise for female-focused charities

Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias can often make it difficult for women to advance themselves, both professionally and personally. The website www.internationalwomensday.com provides an excellent showcase for the amazing work undertaken by different groups globally to address bias head-on, celebrating women’s achievements throughout history and suggesting ways to build meaningful partnerships between different organisations.

From the grass roots of science in schools, up to senior leadership in global businesses, it is important that we share our collective passion for science and promote opportunities to make a genuine difference across the fields of medicine, healthcare, engineering, software development, manufacturing, and many other areas in which great scientific minds can inspire change...without being hindered by bias that can stand in the way of brilliant individuals.

Will you help break the bias?
