Opportunity Summary

James Hume is recruiting for two Analytical Development Scientists because of an increased volume of development projects for the commercialisation of cutting edge, novel cell and gene therapies.  The company are a unique R&D organisation that focuses on the development of the industry by offering services to commercialise cell and gene therapies. With the ability to take these across the translational gap into clinical trials.  They need an Analytical Development Scientist to support the development of Cell and Gene Therapy products with this role focusing on the characterisation of Viral Vectors.

Company Description

The company have established a centre of excellence at their Central London laboratories to support the development of cell and gene therapies through the commercialisation process. They collaborate with academic and industrial partners, who are developing novel therapies, to take these from the concept stage to the market by using cutting edge methodologies to achieve this.  They were established in 2012 with the purpose to support the growth of the cell and gene therapy industry.  Since then have gone from strength to strength because of the technical expertise they have to develop therapies from concept to market launch.  For example, they have taken therapies across a range of therapeutic areas to phase II clinical trials already.  With these moving to phase III trials they have opened a new facility in Stevenage to manufacture on a scale large enough for phase III trials and operate on a hotel concept.  They offer cutting edge technology and innovation to enable organisations to take therapies into clinical trials by providing process development, analytical development and manufacturing expertise to do so.

The Role

The Analytical Development Scientist role is within the Analytical Development Department as part of their industrialisation group and is one where you will be able to use your science and creativity to support the development of therapies.  You will be working with senior and lead scientists to design and plan analytical research programmes, that focus on viral vector characterisation, for each project.

They work in state of the art laboratories using a wide range of analytical techniques to develop, run, optimise and validate assays, including RT – qPCR, DNA / RNA isolation and purification, Flow Cytometry, and protein arrays such as MSD or Luminex.  You will run the various assays for the characterisation of viral vectors using your technical expertise to optimise and validate these.  Then analysing the data to be submitted in reports and produce detailed protocols and SOP’s fir the assay transfer internally and externally to collaborators

This is an excellent role because you will gain commercial GMP experience, be able to use your science, as well as be exposed to new techniques which will help you develop your career with this fast - growing company.

Experience

You will need to be educated to at least MSc level in a relevant life science with some commercial experience.  If you have a PhD, then this is advantageous to your application and if you do then you don’t have to have post doc or other experience – again this is advantageous. You must have experience of the characterisation of viral vectors such as lentiviral, AAH, retroviral etc.  Developing, optimising and then validating the assays.

You will however need to also have experience in at least two of the following:
  • Analytical Techniques for Viral Characterisation.
  • PCR – (RT-qPCR is advantageous)
  • Flow Cytometry – Multicolour experience is advantageous
  • DNA / RNA isolation / purification.
  • Immunoassay Development e.g. ELISA
  • Protein Arrays
  • MSD
  • Luminex
Skills such as Next Generation Sequencing, Genotyping, Mammalian Cell Culture, and Fluorescent imaging are advantageous to your application.

This is a permanent role
