Overview:

James Hume is currently recruiting for several Process Development Scientists to join an innovative company leading the translation of therapies from lab scale taking these into clinical trial and commercial manufacture.  This is a challenging role where you will be able to utilise your scientific expertise to deliver results by working as part of a multidisciplinary team in state of the art laboratories.  Due to a continued increase volume of R&D programmes, with more in the pipeline, they need to add expertise to their Process Development team.

They are right at the cutting edge of the development, delivery and commercialisation of cell and gene therapies.  Working in an innovative environment where scientific expertise is applied to crossing the translational gap to enter clinical trials and the continual development of therapies to reach a scale for commercial manufacture.  They have state of the art laboratories in Central London where they have multi – disciplinary teams of scientists covering Analytical Development, Process Development and Manufacturing Development aspects of programmes to bring therapies to the clinic.  They work with academic institutions and commercial organisations who are developing therapies and need additional expertise to realise their ambitions.  The company provides the technical, regulatory, clinical and commercial services to do so.   Tangible proof of this is shown in the success in taking therapies across different therapeutic areas into phase II clinical trials and planning to move to phase II with a new manufacturing facility opening soon as manufacturing demands increase.

The Opportunity:

The Process Development Scientist is to be part of the wider industrialization team to work on both cell and gene therapies to develop processes to translate early stage therapies to clinical trial manufacture.  You will be working in external development projects in conjunction with colleagues from the Manufacturing and Analytical Development teams.  The focus of your research will be to support the translation of research based manufacturing processes to scalable clinical manufacturing protocols that can be used for commercial use. 

As a Process Development Scientist you are relatively senior within the laboratories helping to design experimental programmes with the Senior and Lead Scientists.  Then running these in the laboratories working with senior and junior colleagues to ensure projects achieve milestones and are completed on time.  Analyzing the large datasets generated to be submitted in reports to be used to determine the way forward for your research.  To the write the SOP’s to be followed for new or optimized processes when research has been completed and helping with the transfer of technology to the client.

Desired Skills and Competencies:

Due to the nature of the Process Development team being multi-disciplinary which is due the range of projects the company are working on needing different skill sets means need to have at least 2 of the following as well as a relevant PhD or MSc combined with commercial experience:
  • Experience of Technology Transfer
  • Experience of Immunology
  • Experience of Immune Cell Processing Technologies e.g. primary cell isolation, cell activation transduction and transduction
  • Experience of processing technologies including bioreactor, cell separation, and formulation technologies.
  • Experience of Allogenic cell processing, e.g. pluripotent stem cell expansion, differentiation and quality analysis
  • Experience of automated cell processing technologies
  • Experience of transfer to GMP manufacture
  • Knowledge of cell culture analysis e.g. flow cytometry, and FACS sorting
