Summary
James Hume is recruiting for a Business Development and Collaboration Executive to join a leading Biotech commercialising Cell & Gene Therapies. The company’s purpose is to support the development, delivery and commercialisation of cell therapies, by providing a range of services to bridge the translational gap and progress through clinical trials to market launch.  Due to continued increase in the volume of collaborations with academic and commercial organisations, they need to recruit an additional Business Development Executive, to cover territories across the North of the UK.  This is an excellent for anyone who is seeking a dynamic role that offers the platform to develop your career with this dynamic company.

The Company

The company are a centre of excellence that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry.  Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market.  They collaborate with both academia and industry and they are able to provide the scientific, clinical and commercial expertise needed to overcome the challenges that hinder the commercialization of these fast developing, cutting edge technologies.  Their longer term aim is to make the UK a global leader in the development and commercial exploitation of therapies.  They are making great strides towards this aim with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3.  Added to this they are expanding their manufacturing and development operations to meet increased demand for their services from the academic and commercial sectors.

The Role

The role of the Business Development Executive is to identify therapies that are suitable for their core funded or joint collaborative R&D funding so there is a steady stream of development projects coming into the company.  You will assess the market place for new therapies being developed by academic or commercial organisations to approach and build relationships with them to enter into a collaborative partnership.  In addition to seeking new therapies you will maintain existing relationships with leading technology transfer offices, as well as academic institutions.  Using your technical knowledge and commercial nous to assess the market place to be up to date with the latest developments and who to make contact with.  As well as the identification of any gaps within the market to allow the wider team to target key technology developers.

This opportunity has excellent career progression because they are looking for an ambitious person who is seeking the chance to take on a role and make it their own.   With the chance to then move to more senior, broader roles as the company grows and continues to expand its reach in the UK and internationally.

Experience
The successful candidate will need to have experience of working in a commercial business development (or similar) role in the pharmaceutical, life science or biotech industries. This will be complemented with experience in technology transfer in either an academic or commercial environment. If you have knowledge of the UK and European grants e.g. Innovate UK, Wellcome Trust, Horizon 202 etc then this is advantageous to your application. In order to have the credibility and scientific understanding required for this role, a life science degree is essential and a higher degree would be preferred. You will need to be based somewhere in the North of the UK, with the flexibility to travel as required. This travel will include coming to the headquarters in Central London one day per week.
