Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative, credible and experienced Business Development Executive, to join a unique and fast-developing cell and gene therapy organisation. The company’s purpose is to support the development, delivery and commercialisation of cell therapies, by providing a range of services to bridge the translational gap and progress through clinical trials to market launch.  Due to continued increase in the volume of collaborations with academic and commercial organisations, they need to recruit an additional Business Development Executive, to cover territories across the North of the UK. You can be based anywhere in the North and will need to go to London one day a week. You will be paid a generous salary and benefits and the company has an excellent reputation as a forward-thinking, supportive employer.

The Company
You will join one of the UK’s leading cell and gene therapy companies, collaborating with innovative businesses through the start-up, development and commercialisation of their cell and gene therapies. Based in Central London, the company helps other businesses to take products into early clinical trials, providing clinical, technical, manufacturing and regulatory guidance and access to the NHS.

Their business can be divided into 3 separate areas; namely, core funded, fee for service, and R&D collaborations. Their work is varied, pioneering and complex, ranging from simple one-party collaborations to complex multi-party collaborations and the formation of spin-out companies. The volume of collaborations has been increasing across a range of therapeutic areas, with a number of notable successes over the last few years.  Going forward they have plans in place to provide the infrastructure to support Phase III trials and are currently expanding a brand new cell and gene therapy development and manufacturing facility, supplementing the process development and scale up capabilities established at their central London base. This business is exciting and highly respected partner to many businesses, helping the UK to become one of the global leaders in cell and gene therapies and regenerative medicines. A Business Development role here will be engaging, rewarding and highly enjoyable, and you can have confidence that the collaborations you set up with other businesses will be of the utmost quality and innovation standard.

The Role

The role of the Collaboration and Business Development Executive is to take responsibility for your assigned territory (UK North), identifying potential academic or commercial organisations with which to collaborate.  You will target organisations which are developing novel therapies that would be suitable for core funded or R&D grant awards.  You will build and maintain relationships with these organisations to ensure a steady flow of projects for the company’s operational teams, helping to develop and close the deal when entering into the collaboration, and guiding them through this process.  In addition you will keep up to date with developments in the sector and assess the market place to identify any gaps to allow the team to target key technology developers.

You will be reporting into the Collaboration and Business Development Manager but you will be working as part of a wider matrix team to achieve signed agreements with collaborators.  As this is a growing department in this unique organisation, there will be opportunities to develop your career as you progress with the company.

Experience
The successful candidate will need to have experience of working in a commercial business development (or similar) role in the pharmaceutical, life science or biotech industries. This will be complemented with experience in technology transfer in either an academic or commercial environment. If you have knowledge of the UK and European grants e.g. Innovate UK, Wellcome Trust, Horizon 202 etc then this is advantageous to your application. In order to have the credibility and scientific understanding required for this role, a life science degree is essential and a higher degree would be preferred. You will need to be based somewhere in the North of the UK, with the flexibility to travel as required. This travel will include coming to the headquarters in Central London one day per week.
